Deck

A standard deck of 52 cards is used for online Rummy.

• Pure Sequence: Owning a pure sequence means the player has three or more than three cards from the same suit. But it should not contain any Jokers. The pure sequence begins with an Ace and ends with either a King or a Queen. It may also begin with a 2.
• Impure Sequence: A sequence with three or more cards but with the inclusion of Joker is considered impure. Other than this, the rest is the same as that of a pure sequence.
• Set: This is basically a collection of three to four cards that are identical but in a different suit. Consider three hearts, three clubs, or three spades as examples.
• Joker: Players in 7 Card Rummy often use one of two Jokers as wildcards to replace any existing card in a sequence or set.

Goal

Players begin the game with the motive of combining relevant cards to make the most valuable sets and sequences. The winning player is the one who has succeeded in discarding all cards before all opponents.

Dealing

Unlike 13 cards in Indian Rummy, each player gets 7 cards from the shuffled deck to begin with. The stockpile has the remaining cards in it, all faced down. The top card from the stockpile is then taken to create the discard pile.

Melding

Each player takes his turn for melding by placing the card face up. Remember that every player must have at least two sequences, one pure out of that. The other sequences could be sets or any other type.

Drawing

The player gets to draw a card from the stockpile or the discarded pile when it’s their turn. But to get a card from the stockpile, one card must be added to the discarded pile, and the player has to retain the card drawn recently. The same procedure has to be repeated if the player draws the card from the discarded pile. Ultimately, by using the card in hand, they have to create sequences or sets.

Discarding

If you know how to play Rummy, you already know that the completion of each round demands the player to send a card to the discarded pile. But the card cannot be a part of any set or sequence.

Winning

The final player remaining and melding all cards into sequences and sets will be declared the winner. Even if they have not melded all cards, the last card can be tossed onto the discarded pile without the possibility of a new set of sequence formations.

A skilled player will always be focused throughout the game and concentrate only on scoring the highest. But there is no ground for rigidly sticking to rules in Rummy, and 7 Card Rummy is no different. You always have to be flexible and consider your opponent’s next move to make changes to your score.

• Face Cards (King, Queen, and Joker) give the players 10 points each. Numbered cards are determined by their face value.

• If you can stay until the end without discarding the last card, you get a bonus of 10 points.

Ultimately, ‘Winning Hands’ means the player has no deadwood and thus gets no penalty points. All of their seven cards have formed meaningful sets and sequences. This gives you guaranteed victory, unless there is another fellow player in the same situation.
